Multi-Factor Authentication Required
Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division will be implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all students K-12 starting on Wednesday, April 15th.
Information Systems will be implementing this change as part of our ongoing commitment to cybersecurity and the protection of student information, as MFA adds an additional layer of security beyond just a username and password. With the increasing number of credential-based attacks targeting school divisions, this measure helps prevent unauthorized access to student accounts—even if a password is compromised.
Students will only be required to use MFA when they are away from school.
How this will work:
1. Attached are the instructions for students to register for the MFA (click the heading of this story).
2. When the student is logging in to their account at home, or away from the school network, they are prompted to create a Multi Factor Authentication code.
3. Student MFA will only be required when students are accessing their accounts outside of the division’s network (off-site) and only then will be prompted to verify their identity using a second factor (picture or code).
4. When students are working within our schools on the division network, MFA will not be required.
5. No changes to in-school login procedures
Again, this is only for students who are accessing their school account away from the school.
